Silk Kanzashi by Risachantag Silk Kanzashi by Risachantag
A friend introduced me to tsumami kanzashi (Japanese folded flower hair decorations), and we've both been having so much fun making them!

Since we've both spent a fair bit on materials, we thought we'd make a few to sell at conventions too. Would you buy these if you saw them at a convention for $25 or so? If so, which ones do you like?

I would totally buy the black and white, light pink edged, and dark purple and black ones...At least I really want them.  But being that I rarely put things in my hair, $25 would be a bit much for me to pay.

Maybe have some kind of deal where if you buy multiple ones, there's a discount...like buy 2 get the 3rd at half price or something.  Then I most definitely would.

WOW. I want to learn how to make these sooo badly! How did you learn?

And to answer your question, I love the pink ones, the bobby pin pink and purple flower, and the white and black hair comb. :) I think you may want to stagger your pricing according to size, time it took to make, and materials used in accordance with how much a flower would cost. As a poor, starving, college student, I don't have a lot of money, so I personally and probably wouldn't spend $25 unless I was absolutely nuts over it. I'm pretty close with some of these, but it's a little steep for me. However, like I said, that's just me.

So beautiful. Very lovely. Wish I were rich to buy them all. If I was at a convention this would definitely be on my list. :) Good luck! The white with light pink and the purple flower with pink jewel that has the green leaves are my top two favorites. Hope this helps.

Not $25. Probably $20 would be the highest I'd go if I really really really wanted one.
I really like the black/blue one on the far right and the blue/indigo one on the far left.

Those are lovely! I'm not sure I'd buy one for myself since I have short hair and don't often dress up, but 25$ seems fair for the materials and work involved. My favourites are the white-and-black one and the pink one at the top.

These are adorable! I'd recommend you 20$. It's a beautiful manual work, and if the material is the traditional-autenthic (sorry not sure if I said that in the correct way, i'm still learning english) you can put the prize you want, you must convince people that they're hard to do to pay that prize xD

Agh How pretty are the white ones! <3

Knowing the materials that you used, and their size, I think that's an exceptionally fair price.  If you were to make less expensive ones, you should definitely use cheaper fabric or smaller sized ones.
I like the white and pink one, and the white and black one would actually match my obi really well...If it's not already spoken for, I'd be willing to buy it.

They're very gorgeous. Are they constructed with glue or thread or a mixture of both?

Honestly though, I would be unable to buy one simply because I really have no money.  If I had the funds to spare, I would.  If I was on a tight budget and saw them for about $10 I might consider it a good purchase and go ahead and buy one.

I love the black and white one! Using real silk to make these must be very costly, so I could see where material+labor would make it 25. You still need to make a profit after all.

well...
on one side there are extremely pretty, especially the blue-red one and the white-ish one, great work! i know how hard origami like things can be at times (i adore folding myself and i dont know if its just me but sometimes if something seems hard im like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU D<) so i think 25$ is a good price, especially regarding the possible material costs (i recently went to a big city where there was a shop that sold origami paper and i bought some worth 20-30€, so i can imagine what those must be worth ...)
on the other side - i dont use those things much and personally i dont know many people that do - but i live in a really rural region so thats not surprising. im sure there are tons of people out there - especially at conventions - whod use it - so id say: why not? :) i think youll be able to sell quite a few and if you cant sell all of them, its still an awesome gift!

At most I'd buy them at $15, at least on a one piece, the extra $5-15 on a 2 piece. You have to remember the age range of those who go to conventions. If you were to sell them online as well then $25 is 100% understandable.

I prefer the top white ones. they look more like a realistic flower. I would feel comfortable spending $15 for the big one and $10 for the small, or $20-$25 for both. :) wish i could order them online as I live in canada

I Like the top white one and the bottom one with the purples. In all honesty I couldn't afford to spend $25 on one but then I don't go to conventions so it doesn't matter. lol

I prefer the ones on the far sides, or the white/pink tipped if you could make in blues, purples or greens. The problem is that I don't wear clips or combs, so it'd have to be some sort of hair tie I can use for a ponytail.

that would be great. my hair is always in a ponytail so i agree with you. I would get more use out of them if they were attached to a hair tie

Yeah I would definitely buy. They look gorgeous. I've seen hair decorations (usually bows on clips) at cons before but they're usually gaudy or really cheaply made, these look quality.

Love. I would buy if I saw most likely :) Maybe pairing a small one with one of the clips/combs make the price more understandable for conventions? I have seen kanzashi pricing for big ones in the hundreds. Just a suggestion. I'd probably pay 25$ just for one of the clips haha!

Let me know if you start doing commissions of these occasionally! Need to find a orange one to match my furisode :)

If that's too expensive for you, that's okay, but they're made with real silk, and are hand-made taking 1-2 hours to make each, so I'm quite sure they're worth more that $10.

Well how big are they? I assumed they were at best quarter sized. Mostly I was just stating because you asked about selling, and I'm pretty sure I could find something similar in appearance for $10 online.

Oh, no they're 2.5-3.5 inches in diameter (8-10cm). I'll put something for scale with the next batch, I guess.

Hm I dunno if I'd pay 25$ for them (not saying that's not a fair price, I just don't wear these kinds of things often enough to justify it) but I like the top one that has cherry blossom-like colors, and the dark purple/black one on the far right. The black and white one is pretty neat too... lovely work! Are they hard to make?
