Wow. Every so often life throws you something wonderfully weird.

I was driving down south with some friends to get to a family lunch at a restaurant, well away from the city. We were starting off down a rather typical Australian middle-of-nowhere sort of road; bush on both sides and the odd stretch of farmland here and there, when randomly... we saw this:

A guy on a penny farthing bicycle. Okay, that's odd in itself, but what cracked me up was that he was also wearing bright yellow pro cycling gear. On a penny farthing.

Not only that, but once we got to the lunch, my dad asked if we'd also seen the bagpipe player that was giving the cyclists directions.

Oh, I forgot to mention, just to top things off, down the road was a huge paddock full of llamas.

Sure, it was probably some charity event, but man, it was like driving straight through a Monty Python sketch. I think there's a charity out there that I owe money to now, because seriously, that was gold.

Don't quite understand how people thought those were a valid, logical mode of transportation. They had clocks and watches back then, and I would think that gears and such would have been logical to apply to a bike. Still something to laugh about though.

It's like I keep saying: Real life is so much more interesting than anything a movie writer could ever come up with. :)

Those moments are awesome. Your picture reminded me of this lecture that I saw that talked about the history of bicycles for 20 minutes. Yeah.
