This is another one of those pictures that I never thought I'd actually get done. I had a few days at work where I didn't have anything to do, so my boss let me paint whatever I wanted to. I brought in my original sketch from home and then worked pretty solidly on it.

The idea came simply from wanting to do a picture featuring a spiral staircase. As drawing one from scratch is a pain, I did a quick mock-up in 3D, then painted over it. As for the concept, it's loosely based on my personification of science fiction and fantasy.


Time: About 24 hours over four days
Tools: Photoshop CS3 & Wacom Intuos Tablet

Diggin the distorted perspective man, although in my humble opinion the painting looks better the other way up... then you get that 'falling' feeling ;p

Their expressions are fantastic. I love how you've combined the intricacy of the staircase and the differences of the colors and positions and just brought it all back to their hands touching. There's an intimacy in it which I really like. <3 The staircase is terrific as well, it's like you're looking up at it but you're looking down and there's buildings and... it's got great detail and perspective. :nod: Thanks for posting!
